About Fernweh Occupational Health
Occupational Health Built Around the Workplace
Fernweh Occupational Health was created to make essential occupational health services more convenient for employers and employees throughout Northcentral Pennsylvania.
Instead of requiring workers to leave the jobsite, travel to a clinic, and lose valuable time during the workday, Fernweh brings select occupational health services directly to the workplace.
The initial focus is simple: provide efficient, professional mobile DOT physicals with an employer-friendly approach to scheduling.
As Fernweh grows, the goal is to continue expanding practical workplace health services while maintaining the same emphasis on convenience, communication, and high-quality care.
Meet Katie Long, PA-C
Katie Long is a Pennsylvania-licensed Physician Assistant with extensive experience in occupational medicine.
Her occupational health background includes DOT medical examinations, work-related injuries, pre-employment evaluations, and employer-focused medical services. She has spent years working directly with commercial drivers, employees, and businesses and understands the scheduling and operational challenges employers face when workers need medical services during the workday.
Katie founded Fernweh Occupational Health to create a more flexible model — one that brings care closer to the people who need it and makes occupational health easier for employers to coordinate.
As an FMCSA Certified Medical Examiner, she provides DOT medical examinations with a focus on thoroughness, efficiency, and clear communication.
Why “Fernweh”?
Fernweh is a German word often used to describe a longing for distant places or the desire to travel.
For a business serving commercial drivers and mobile workforces, the name felt especially fitting.
Fernweh Occupational Health combines that sense of movement with a practical mission: bringing occupational health services directly to the people and workplaces that keep our communities moving.
Our Approach
Fernweh Occupational Health is built around a few simple principles:
Convenience
Whenever possible, services are brought directly to the workplace to minimize unnecessary travel and time away from work.
Efficiency
Employer scheduling is designed to make it easier to coordinate multiple employees during a single visit.
Professional Care
Every service is provided with the same attention to quality, professionalism, and appropriate medical standards you would expect in a traditional clinical setting.
Local Service
Fernweh is based in Northcentral Pennsylvania and is focused on building long-term relationships with employers and drivers throughout the region. We do serve all of Pennsylvania and can create custom packages to serve employers across the state.
